Weekend at Cabo……

Well, maybe it was longer than a weekend. Sometimes life tells you when it’s time to take a break. Sometimes you make plans, and they don’t exactly work out, but you do the best you can and make things work. Cabo is less than 2 hours away out of San Diego. It’s 3 1/2 – 4 hours to Las Vegas…1 hour to Palm Springs. Decisions, decisions…Ok, let’s do the all-inclusive! I call “Cheap Caribbean” for flight and Resort; let’s do this!!

I have been at this resort with my friends Alex and Dana before, but they have been there many more times than I have. It helps that they both speak Spanish. The service at this resort is great and with Alex’s insight and familiarity with the Resort, I am off to a good start. Right as I step off the shuttle into the Resort, my friends are there to greet me. Alex has already had conversations with Carlos, (one of the guest services managers) and I am set up with a room as good as it gets. I could not ask for anything more.

Honestly, I love the resort, the service and staff are awesome! It’s not a 5-star resort, but for the price and service, it’s hard to beat. The food is good…some of our meals were better than others. If you are a foodie, this might not be where you want to stay. However, you do have options for eating off-site by taking taxis.

One night, we decided to eat at one of our favorite restaurants about 15 minutes from the Resort, Casa Don Rodrigo.

It’s a pretty restaurant that opens up into a courtyard setting as you walk further into it. The restaurant is well known for making artisanal cheeses and has been doing so since 1850. One of their dishes is done tableside where they use a hollowed-out cheese wheel and drop warm pasta into the wheel and season it as the pasta melts the cheese.

I enjoy having what they call their Seafood Molcajete. They put a cement type mortar into their wood-burning stove and heat it till its flaming hot! The mortar is filled with a combination of octopus, shrimp, scallops with some of their artisanal cheese and green onions. It’s a fantastic tasting dish filled with melty goodness!

I always like to try something different and I noticed they were serving bone marrow as an appetizer. The dish may not be for everyone, but the beefiness of the marrow with a little of their homemade hot sauce was a great bite.

We try to eat healthy, but how much fun can that always be? So, we figure we need to take walks/runs to at least attempt to get rid of some of those calories.

“The trash that you throw on the ground does not speak, but it says much about you.”

On one of our walks, we found our way to a local estuary where the area is an ecological protected site. It was a great way to put in some walking time enjoying the quiet as there were not many people out and about.

Part of my enjoyment when I travel is to have a cigar later at night with my friends. A nice little breeze combined with a bit of tequila pairs well with a cigar.

As much as I love visiting Cabo, life brings me back knowing that Monday is around the corner with the start of a new week and the hope that all will be right in the world.

Last morning in Cabo with a cup of coffee in hand…ahhhhhh!
