Bye, Bye 2020…Hello Food Coma!

I think it would be an understatement to say that 2020 has turned out to be a year we would like forever burned out from our memories. This Holiday Season, I think I subconsciously made meals with the intent of trying to end this year on a good note and to help me in my process to get over this past year. A perpetual food coma was definitely an end result.

Seafood Platter from my excursion at Whole Foods

I realized that I cooked more fish than I typically do, which is a good thing. Nancy and I were quick to buy food items that are not on our standard grocery list but were reasonably priced. Seafood at Whole Foods had some deep discounts if you were an Amazon Prime member. (Whole Foods is not my go-to grocery store. I’m a Costco, Stater Bros, and Albertson’s kind of guy. I happened to be passing through Del Mar and decided to stop by. It’s a good thing there isn’t one in Temecula. My food bill would probably bankrupt me!)

I did enjoy my share of meat during this Holiday Season! Would not want people to just think I was a pescatarian. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!) I grilled up some Pork Chops and a 3-bone Rib Eye Roast which I grilled on my GS 270 Smoker Grill. I butterflied the Rib Eye Roast and stuffed it with blue cheese, garlic, and a little horseradish and herbs. The blue cheese and horseradish brought a little “funkiness” and zing to the dish which seemed to highlight the meatiness of the roast.

Leftovers from food coma dinners are always great. My favorite during this time was making French Style scrambled eggs with a little cream and butter cooked very slowly and topped with caviar. So good!

To help keep me in my perpetual food coma, I opened up a Serrano Ham that I purchased in early November from Costco. It’s sold seasonally and was very reasonably priced. It was my intent to use it at a get-together. It just seemed perfect for a party. (which we could not have! Was hoping that these crazy pandemic days would have been over by now!)

So 2020 has thankfully come to an end! Exercising a little bit during the Holiday Season allowed me to indulge in my chase for the perfect food coma! “In Search of the Perfect Food Coma!” Sounds like that should be the name of the next best Food Show!

I wish everyone a safe and healthy New Year – 2021 and hope this next year is filled with happiness and especially great food!
