It’s Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and I’m a little tired of cooking. Nancy wants to surprise me and take me out to dinner. The timing couldn’t be better. She did a great job of keeping the location secret as we find ourselves in front of the restaurant. I have been wanting to try Bolero and tonight’s the night!
We are transported to Spain as we walk in through the front door.
Spanish artwork is everywhere. We arrived too late to visit the gift shop, but we will check it out next time.
Really enjoying the ambiance. Service was awesome right from the start. We were set up with drinks and a prime spot near the fireplace by Ashliann, the Bolero’s restaurant supervisor that night. Our table was ready for us by the time we finished our drinks.
We were introduced to the menu by Mark who was our waiter for the night. Mark was the waiter for Nancy on her previous visit and requested him for our table tonight. We were not disappointed.
Mark suggested a bottle of Tempranillo that would taste perfect for our meal. There were enough fruit and backbone to the wine to hold up to the spices and flavors of our meal selections.
We started off with some Jamon Iberico and Bolero’s version of Caesar’s Salad as our appetizers.
Bolero’s “Organized Caesar’s Salad” was interesting and very tasty. The salad was prepared like little sushi rolls. Thinly sliced jicama surrounded the salad. The dressing had just the perfect amount of parmesan and garlic to make me happy. Who needs a fork when you can just pick up your salad and pop it in your mouth!
The Iberico Jamon was full of flavor, sweet and nutty, and just melted in your mouth. Would not hesitate to order these two dishes again.
Our main entrees included Garlic Shrimp and their Seafood Paella. Mark was quick to suggest that if we were going to order these two dishes that we should save some of the sauce from the garlic shrimp to use on the paella. He was absolutely on target with that suggestion. The sauce added a spicy savory addition to the already flavorful paella.
The only other comments I have in regards to the paella is that 1) I wish the rice at the bottom of the dish was more crispy and had more of the “socarrat” that a Spanish Paella should have and 2) the seafood to rice ratio could have been a little better. There was a lot of rice in their version of paella. It was a delicious dish nonetheless!
We noticed the customers at the table next to us were enjoying their meal as much as we did as we were moving on for an after-dinner drink.
I would not hesitate to finish off the bone from a tomahawk steak at Bolero like she is doing. I can see myself enjoying that dish sometime in my near future! (This picture was taken with the full authorization and acceptance that it would be in my blog…in case you were interested!)
Ashliann set us up at our spot near the fireplace for our after-dinner drinks. She suggested for me a Spanish Licor 43 and a Chocolate Espresso Martini for Nancy. Nancy couldn’t say enough about the martini. She loved it!
The Licor 43 is so named because of the 43 ingredients used in producing it including fruits, herbs, and spices. A perfect finish to the evening!
Overall, we couldn’t ask for much more for our night at Bolero. Great Food; Great Service! During all this craziness going on in our part of the world, it was nice to get out of the house for a bit and just enjoy. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Holiday and as always, thanks for Spending Time in My Kitchen!
